Polls have closed in New York City, where voters were deciding between two candidates with a generational and ideological divide to steer the nation’s largest city.
Democratic state legislator and democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani harnessed enthusiasm and social media savvy to become a rising star in the contest. Trying to stop him was independent candidate and former Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who was mounting an attempted political comeback four years after he resigned in the face of sexual harassment allegations, which he denied.
