NIXA, Mo. — Voters in the Nixa Fire Protection District rejected a proposed tax levy increase on Nov. 4, with more than 65 % of ballots cast against the measure.

1,971 said “no” and 1,026 voted “yes”, according to unofficial election results.

The ballot question asked district residents whether to authorize an additional $0.25 per $100 of assessed valuation — which would translate to about $7.92 per month on a home assessed at $200,000 — to bolster operations, staffing and aging equipment in the face of rapid growth in emergency calls.

In a statement following the election, the fire district’s board acknowledged the result and thanked voters for their engagement.
