Zohran Mamdani is projected to be the winner of the New York City mayoral election, The Hill reports.

The 34-year-old politician is making history as the city’s first Muslim mayor and first Millennial mayor. He is also the first democratic socialist mayor of the city.

Mamdani defeated Andrew Cuomo , who ran as an Independent after losing to Mamdani in the Democratic primary. Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa also was in the race, but didn’t get much traction.

As of 9:38pm with 72% of the votes reported, Mamdani had 50.5% of the votes with Cuomo in second place with 41.4% and Sliwa in third place with 7.5%.
