STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Loss of her biggest cheerleader and one of her closest confidents didn’t stop Kamillah Hanks in her re-election bid for the North Shore Council seat representing the 49th Council District.
After a very emotional campaign cycle for Hanks, she was reelected by besting two challengers, Republican John Shea, and Independent candidate Sarah Blas. As of 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday night, Hanks has accumulated 54.8% of the vote, compared to 34.7% for Shea and 10.3% for Blas, according to the NYCBOE.
“What you do as a representative is a little sacred,” said Hanks at her campaign office in West Brighton on Tuesday night.
