Businesswoman who sued Washington to become next mayor

WASHINGTON, N.C. (WITN) - The owner of a bed and breakfast who last week sued Washington will become the city’s next mayor.

Ellen Brabo defeated Donald Sadler by a 51% to 49% margin, according to unofficial results Tuesday night.

Brabo sued the city, claiming a 2024 change unlawfully limited bed and breakfast operations.

Brabo owns the Ell Hotel and the city claimed the business hosted large gatherings, exceeded guest limits, and created traffic and parking issues not allowed under its permit.
