OTTAWA – With Canada’s struggling military hoping for a much-needed return to both operational readiness and relevance, Budget 2025 plans to rebuild and rearm Canada’s neglected military by committing $81.8 billion over five years.
Of that, $20.4 billion will go towards recruitment, generational pay raises and health care support for CAF members.
Bolstering overseas missions
Launched in 2014 following Russia’s first invasion of Ukraine, Operation REASSURANCE will be renewed for three years — with Budget 2025 earmarking $2.7 billion to maintain Canada’s largest overseas deployment.
Canada currently has 2,000 troops attached to defend NATO members from Russian aggression , as well as leading 3,000 troops from 14 different nations in Latvia, defending NATO’s eastern flank.
