EVERETT, Mass. —

One person was injured and another was taken into custody following a stabbing across the street from a mayoral watch party in Everett, Massachusetts on Tuesday night.

According to Everett police, one suspect is in custody in connection to a non-fatal stabbing on Norman Street.

Police did not release the suspect's name or what may have led up to the violent altercation.

Mayor-elect Robert Van Campen held his watch party at a restaurant on Norman Street not far from the stabbing scene.

He declared victory over incumbent mayor Carlo DeMaria around 9 p.m.

The stabbing remains under investigation.
