The Milwaukee Brewers are declining their half of José Quintana's club option after the veteran left-handed pitcher made 24 starts for the Brewers last season.
Quintana had a $15 million club option for next year, and the Brewers clearly felt the price tag was too high. Milwaukee operates on a tight budget and has thrived on developing pitchers from within the organization or signing cheaper players. Quintana is going into his 15th season, and the Brewers were never realistically going to pick up the option.
In his 14 seasons, Quintana has played for the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, Los Angeles Angels, Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants. He posted a 3.96 ERA for the Brewers after signing just before the season.
