La Joya Independent School District is renovating its softball field.
Ground was broken on Tuesday. New turf and a new digital scoreboard will be added, plus, the dugouts will be expanded.
A new memorial archway will also be added to the entrance of Coach Rod Softball Field. It'll honor the late softball coach who founded the district's softball program.
"His legacy will be honored by all of us and the students that he impacted, and all of the girls that played softball for him. All the championships, and even all the coaches that he affected. He personally affected me, and he was a great person and a leader of our school," La Joya ISD Athletic Director Jose Pena said.
Carlos Rodriguez, also known as Coach Rod, spent 40 years with La Joya ISD. He started the softball program in 1994.
