The referendum read:

“Shall the City of Camanche enter into a loan agreement and issue general obligation bonds in an amount not exceeding $4.2 million for the purpose of expanding and renovating the library?”

City leaders say the bond referendum would have gave the library new space, as well as keep it from going into disrepair.

Voters were voting to make their decision for whether or not the city extends the debt for the renovation, city leaders said. This will not increase property taxes.

Andrew Kida, Camanche City Administrator said there are several proposed renderings for the library expansion.
