MOSS POINT, Miss. (WLOX) - The Moss Point Board of Aldermen has approved the hiring of new police officers to help its understaffed department.
During the November 4th Board of Aldermen meeting, the board voted to approve the hiring of four new officers and one new investigator.
The new officers were requested by Interim Police Chief Dennis Stevenson , who took over the position in early October.
An evaluation of the police department concluded that it should operate with 28 officers on staff.
Including the five approved hires, there are 11 vacant positions left to be filled.
“I’ve seen the ups and downs in law enforcement,” says Interim Police Chief Dennis Stevenson.
