Nine of the 10 Minneapolis City Council members running for reelection will hold onto their seats for another four-year term.

Tuesday was a good night for the incumbents, but there will still be changes to the council after two wards with open seats elected new council members – with one yet to be decided – and another flipped.

The flipped race was in Ward 7, which was the most contentious and highest spending of any council race, with Elizabeth Shaffer, a Minneapolis park board commissioner backed by Mayor Jacob Frey, drumming up big campaign money to defeat incumbent Katie Cashman, who was endorsed by progressive PAC Minneapolis for the Many.
