In a rebuke to Republican President Donald Trump, California voters overwhelmingly passed a statewide ballot measure Tuesday to redraw the Golden State’s 52 House seats so five more should be easy wins for Democratic candidates in 2026. There are currently nine Republicans among the state’s congressional delegation.

The outcome was hardly a surprise, as various polls ahead of the November 4 special election showed Proposition 50 passing with comfortable margins. Republicans over the last week had all but given up in challenging it, with their No on Prop 50 ads largely disappearing from the airwaves.
