Democrat Kim Salinetro, longtime chief of staff to retiring Pittsburgh City Councilwoman Theresa Kail-Smith, clinched victory Tuesday in the race to represent City Council’s District 2.

Ms. Salinetro’s win maintains Democratic control of District 2, which represents the West End, parts of Mount Washington and Duquesne Heights. She defeated Republican Erin Koper and independent candidate David Tessitor. Ms. Kail-Smith is retiring after 16 years on council.

Ms. Salinetro dominated, receiving more than 70% of the votes.

Three incumbents — in council districts 4, 6 and 8 — kept their seats.

In District 4, Anthony Coghill secured a third term, winning more than 72% of votes and defeating Republican Tracy Larger and independent Brian Naughton.
