The environmental activist group found to have distorted and misrepresented evidence in federal court has received millions in taxpayer funds over the past six years.

New research shows the Environmental Defenders Office has received almost $11 million from state and federal governments since 2018/19, while state and federal funding accounted for 20 per cent of its entire budget for the 2023/24 financial year.

The controversial activist group was hit with a massive $9 million costs order last November when a federal judge accused “distorting and misrepresenting” evidence in its attempt to block Santos’ $5.8 billion Barossa gas project, stating it was “so lacking in integrity that no weight can be placed” on it.
