Coach Kim Mulkey discussed the recent turmoil in LSU’s athletic department for the first time Tuesday after her team routed Houston Christian in its season opener.

Last Thursday — after the university announced during one of the No. 5 Tigers’ two exhibition games that it was parting ways with athletic director Scott Woodward — Mulkey did not speak to reporters because she was “ heartbroken ,” associate head coach Bob Starkey said.

“(Woodward) hired me,” Mulkey said on Tuesday, “so anytime a coach is hired by somebody, you have special feelings. My feelings are far deeper because I'm from the state, and I want all of us to always do good. I want us to look good. I want us to smell good. I want us all (to embody) everything good about the state.”
