Former federal prosecutor Erika Evans has won the race to become Seattle’s top lawyer, capturing 62.5% of the vote Tuesday night.
The race between Evans and one-term City Attorney Ann Davison has exemplified many of the questions facing Seattle: how elected officials should handle perceived disorder and minor offenses; to what extent Seattle should fight back against President Donald Trump’s administration; and whether progressive prosecutors are effective in tackling public safety. The city attorney prosecutes low-level misdemeanor criminal offenses and is responsible for defending the city in civil litigation.
