As Odisha celebrates Kartik Purnima, the occasion is set to bring a rare sight of a Beaver Supermoon in the night sky today. The night sky will feature a moon, 14% larger and 30% brighter than the usual moon, marking a major celestial event. This spectacular event will be visible at around 6:30 PM.
A Supermoon occurs when the full moon coincides with its closest approach to Earth in its elliptical orbit, making it appear unusually big and bright.
Astronomers say tonight’s Supermoon will be the second and closest one of the year, as the Earth-Moon distance narrows to nearly 3,50,000 kilometers.
The event can be easily observed with the naked eye, requiring no special equipment.
