Nicole Watts won the race for Onondaga County Legislature’s 9th district Tuesday with 56% of the vote.

Watts, a Democrat, defeated Republican Bonnke Sekarore and Kenyata Calloway.

Watts recieved 1,176 votes. Sekarore received 791 (38%) and Calloway received 125 (6%).

“This is day one of the path forward in front of us,” Watts said after the win was announced. “But the job has just begun.”

Sekarore said he would consider running again for the seat next year.

“I think that my community would have benefited better with my leadership,” Sekarore told syracuse.com | The Post-Standard. He wished Watts the best as she takes the position.

Calloway, too, said she wouldn’t rule out another run.
