Fall River voters on Tuesday reelected Paul Coogan to the mayor’s office by approximately 225 votes, according to unofficial tallies.
In the South Coast city, preliminary results showed Coogan with 5,841 votes and opponent Gabriel “Boomer” Amaral with 5,616 votes.
Coogan, who will now serve a fourth term as mayor, took office in 2019 after the embattled tenure of Jasiel Correia , who is now serving a six-year federal prison sentence for wire fraud and extortion.
Before his election in 2019, Coogan served on the Fall River School Committee. He taught for more than 30 years in the city’s school system.
Amaral, who works in real estate, is a 19-year military veteran and father of six. He previously ran unsuccessfully for Fall River City Council in 2021 and 2023.
