Veteran Odia Jatra artist Devi Prasad Rath, affectionately known as ‘Mama’, died early Wednesday at his residence in Paradipgarh, Jagatsinghpur, following a cardiac arrest.
Rath began his journey as a child artist in stage plays and steadily rose to prominence in Odisha’s performing arts. Over four decades, he performed in more than 100 productions, portraying heroes, villains, and elder characters with remarkable versatility. His final appearance in “Thaki Dela Bandhu Thikana Bele” in 2017 marked the end of a 42-year career that defined an era of Jatra theatre.
