HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Maui native Chimo Shipp created a way to get fresh fish to residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now, he’s back to help as families navigate the federal government shutdown and uncertainties with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

“Anyone who wants to come down, we’ll be giving away fish!” said Shipp, an organizer at Fresh Help Maui. “If you are facing food insecurity or you’re having money problems or whatever the issues, if you need some help or want some help, we are here to give away fish!”

Shipp worked with Ben Walin, a leader at the Maui Trailer Boat Club, to organize the Feeding Frenzy fishing tournament.

It aimed to reel in as many fish as possible to feed families in the community.
