Veteran Odia Jatra artist Devi Prasad Rath, widely known by his stage name ‘Mama’, passed away early Wednesday following a cardiac arrest at his home in Paradipgarh in Jagatsinghpur district. According to family members, he suffered the attack while asleep in the early hours of the morning.
Rath had a distinguished career spanning over four decades in the Odia Jatra industry. Beginning as a child artist in stage plays, he went on to perform in over 100 productions, becoming one of the most versatile and respected figures in the state’s performing arts circuit.
He transitioned smoothly from drama to Jatra, taking on roles ranging from hero and villain to elder characters that earned him widespread acclaim.
