LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - A U.K.-based data center company has selected Lansing as the site for its first facility in the United States, pending Lansing City Council approval.

Deep Green’s proposed data center would be built on a 2.7-acre vacant parking lot on Kalamazoo Street in the Stadium District.

The facility would occupy three-quarters of an acre and span about 25,000 square feet.

City officials say the 24-megawatt data center would generate heat to be used by the Lansing Board of Water and Light for free. In return, BWL would power the facility through its existing grid.

“The 24 megawatts they need, we have that surplus in our portfolio right now. And so, that’s the big savings to Deep Green. And the win for us is we’re getting that heat for free,” a BWL representative said.
