Shattering the wild speculation over a possible alliance with the Opposition AIDMK-led NDA, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) today asserted that it would head a separate front in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls and declared that party Founder and actor-turned neta Vijay is the Chief Ministerial candidate.

An announcement, which was received with loud cheers, to this effect was made at the Special General Council Meeting of the TVK held at Mamallapuram, about 55 km from here, which was presided over by Vijay.

The announcement came as a body blow to the AIADMK which had openly invited TVK for an alliance to save his party.
