Vijay addressed party workers 38 days after the Karur stampede

South actor Vijay Thalapathy’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), on Wednesday announced him as its Chief Ministerial candidate for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

The decision was made during a high-level party meeting at a Mahabalipuram hotel, where Vijay was also given full authority to decide on electoral alliances.

Addressing the Special General Council meeting for the first time since the Karur stampede tragedy, Vijay expressed confidence that TVK would emerge as the principal challenger to the ruling DMK.

"The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections will be a direct contest between TVK and DMK. TVK will secure 100% victory," Vijay declared.
