The map below shows Spanberger's winning counties include a swath of Northern Virginia and Spotsylvania County, which hasn't voted Democratic in recent history.
Spanberger won Spotsylvania County by a relatively slim margin — but it's the first time the county has voted blue since 2018, when she was elected to represent Virginia's 7th District.
Lt. Gov.
Democrat Ghazala Hashmi won the race for Virginia's lieutenant governor, flipping the office from red to blue, NBC News projects.
