A split-second decision saved the house and life of a Perth man after his car went up in flames.

After a trip to the mechanics to have smoke coming out of his car’s bonnet investigated, a Wilson resident was told that a part on his Alfa Romeo needed to be replaced.

The quick fix turned out to be more complex than initially thought, with residual issues still persisting so the cars owner took it back to the mechanic and they ordered in a new part for the car, but assured the Perth man that it was still safe to use in the meantime.

The owner continued to drive it short distances and after pulling into his garage one night he noticed more smoke than usual.
