ANN ARBOR — It’s not that Michigan safety Brandyn Hillman operates on one intense speed, but he’s motivated by the see-ball, get-ball mantra of defense. And if that means inflicting one of his signature hard hits, well, that’s more than likely his goal. Hillman, a former high school quarterback who used to run away from defenders, is now the one who seeks out what he calls “victims” on the field.
“We know he’s a big hit waiting to happen,” safety Jaden Mangham said Tuesday. “We love him for that.”
Being a physical defensive back is now second nature to the 6-foot, 200-pound Hillman. The power behind his hits is generated when he coils his body.
