After much speculation, Netflix has confirmed that Xolo Maridueña ( Blue Beetle ) has been cast as Portgas D. Ace in season three of One Piece . He joins recently cast Cole Escola as Bon Clay in the third installment, which is set to go back into production later this year in Cape Town, South Africa.

Portgas D. Ace, a pivotal character in the manga mythology, is the adopted older brother of Monkey D. Luffy and son of the late Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. He was a member of the Whitebeard Pirates and was the captain of the Spade Pirates before that. He ultimately lost his life at the hands at the Battle of Marineford where he sacrificed himself to save Luffy.
