In a shocking case that echoes the plot of the film Drishyam, the remains of a man missing for nearly a year have been discovered buried beneath the kitchen floor of his own home in Ahmedabad. The victim, identified as 35-year-old Samir Ansari, was reported missing last year, and the police made the grim discovery on Tuesday night after receiving a tip-off.
The Ahmedabad crime branch, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ajit Rajian, found bones and other remains while excavating the kitchen floor of Ansari's locked house in the Sarkhej area. The investigation revealed that Ansari's wife, Ruby, is the main suspect, along with her alleged lover, Imran Vaghela, and two of his relatives, Rahim and Mohsin. While Vaghela has been arrested, Ruby and the two relatives remain at large.
According to police, the motive behind the murder stemmed from Ruby's extramarital affair with Vaghela. DCP Rajian stated, "Vaghela claimed Ruby hatched the plan to kill Ansari because he used to thrash her after learning about her affair, and she saw him as an obstacle in her illicit relationship."
On the night of the murder, it is alleged that Vaghela, with Ruby's assistance, slit Ansari's throat. They then dismembered the body and buried it in a pit they dug in the kitchen, sealing it with cement and tiles to hide the evidence. For months, Ruby lived in the same house with their two children, telling neighbours that Ansari had gone to another city for work.
Samir Ansari, originally from Bihar, had moved to Ahmedabad in 2016 after marrying Ruby. He worked as a mason to support his family. The case came to light three months ago when a local informant reported Ansari's prolonged absence. During police questioning, Vaghela confessed to the crime, leading to the exhumation of the remains in the presence of an executive magistrate.
The recovered remains have been sent for forensic and DNA analysis to confirm the identity of the victim and gather further evidence against the accused.
