One week after Hurricane Melissa slammed into Jamaica, the island is still struggling to recover from one of the most destructive storms in recent memory.
The hurricane tore through homes, businesses, and communities, leaving neighborhoods flooded and cut off, and a rising death toll in its wake.
In St. James, residents are fighting for access to clean water.
Along a narrow road in Montego Bay, crowds now gather at what locals call "the pump house." It’s a small water facility near a factory, and since the storm, it’s become a vital gathering place. Cars line the road as residents carry jugs, bottles, and buckets and anything that can hold water.
“We don’t have any water in our communities, so we have to come out here to get drinking water and to wash,” said Julian Clarke, one of dozen
