OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - On this day 96 years ago, Nebraska was celebrating its Diamond Jubilee.
The celebration happened in 1929 not as a state, but as a sort of political unit. Photographs from the Nebraska Historical Society show the parade — which about 150,000 people attended.
People were celebrating the 75 years since the Kansas - Nebraska Act made it a territory.
Despite the recent collapse of the stock market, the event was a success. President Herbert Hoover declined an invitation to attend.
