Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders congratulated New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani on his victory.
Noting that Mamdani had started at 1% in the polls, the 84-year-old legislator lauded the progressive's victory as one of the biggest and most sudden triumphs in recent American history on social media.
"Yes. We CAN create a government that represents working people and not the 1%," Sanders said. "I look forward to working with Zohran as he builds a city that works for all."
The Vermont senator has been an proponent of Mamdani during the 34-year-old politician's mayoral campaign, speaking at rallies and openly supporting him during interviews.
