WAMEGO – Baldwin’s Irelyn Kennedy earned gold as she crossed the finish line in first place at the 2025 Class 4A Girls State Cross Country finals at Wamego Saturday morning. Kennedy ran 18:57.08 to finish ahead of Paola’s Ella Needham (19:12.96), Buhler’s Corbin Starkweather (19:14.33) and Isabella Friesen (19:28.16) and Clay Center Kylie Pfizenmaier in fifth place at 19:41.05.
Wamego’s Shayne Pittenger-Reed crossed sixth at 19:54.16. Chapman’s Liberty Cuevas placed 25th with a time of 21:06.05 with Abilene’s twin sister Jade and Josie Wilson crossing at 26th and 27th. Jade ran 21:08.37 with Josie right behind her at 21:08.37.
Buhler won the team championship followed by Wamego and Baldwin.
