A New York City man was arrested after police say he was caught driving a stolen BMW on Route 46 in Bergen County.
Palisades Park officers responded to 41 W. Harriet Ave., around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, for a reported dispute related to a possible shoplifting incident, according to Palisades Park Police Chief George Beck.
When officers arrived, the suspect, later identified as Oshane McClean, 32, had already fled the scene in a black 2016 BMW X5, Beck said. Officer Vincent Juliano broadcast the vehicle’s registration information to nearby patrols.
Shortly after, Officer Salvatore Farnese spotted the BMW traveling east on Route 46 and conducted a traffic stop before the George Washington Bridge, police said.
A records check showed the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Jersey City, Beck said.
McClean initially gave police a false name, but was later properly identified, the chief said.
He was charged with receiving stolen property (2C:20-7A) and hindering apprehension/providing false information (2C:29-3B(4)). He was processed and taken to the Bergen County Jail, according to police.
Beck commended the officers for their teamwork and quick response.
