University of Rhode Island Athletic Director Thorr Bjorn is returning to his alma mater.
Bjorn has accepted an offer from the University of Massachusetts to become the school’s new senior deputy athletic director, a source confirmed to The Journal. ESPN reported Wednesday morning Bjorn will oversee the school’s football program and assume the role of chief administrative officer within the department.
Bjorn is a Minutemen football alum who worked at the school for 15 years, including a short stint as interim athletic director. He’s spent the last 18 years with the Rams , and was paid a salary of $368,056 in 2024, according to state records. In June, Bjorn signed a five-year contract extension with URI that runs through the 2029-30 academic year.
