It wasn’t the state finals race she wanted to run, but Mia May showed a lot of grit and determination in her 102nd-place finish in the Division 2 state final at Michigan International Speedway.

The talented junior entered Saturday’s state finals with the ninth-fastest time in Division 2 at 17:52.0, which earned her a conference championship and created high expectations for the 5K race at the Michigan International Speedway, after she placed 15th there as a sophomore.
