ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Only hours after millions of Georgians and Americans cast their ballots in the 2025 election, the current partial government shutdown reached a dubious milestone in U.S. political history.

As of Wednesday, the current shutdown has reached 36 days, surpassing the previous 35-day record set by the by the 2018-2019 shutdown during Donald Trump’s first presidency.
