When a woman thrifted an old picture of an eye-catching house, she was surprised to find something written on the back.

Chloe Seanelle was shopping in a Value Village in Marysville, Washington , two years ago, when she first came across the picture. Though she had no connection to the home photographed, she felt compelled to purchase it. "I love history, especially historic homes, so I thought it would be an interesting addition to my collection of framed art," Seanelle told Newsweek .

The secondhand market is big business in the U.S. today, with research from Capital One Shopping projecting that it could be worth $61 billion by 2026. This particular thrift purchase wasn’t about profit, though. The picture held no real monetary value. To Seanelle, it was about so much more than that
