Character matters.

Kristen Rosen Gonzalez was sent packing, just like Mario Cuomo up in New York. People want progressive policies.

But we don’t want opportunistic politicians that won’t deliver, who one day claim to be Hispanic and the other day Democrats.

So what happened was that the ultra-conservative Mayor Steven Meiner defeated the “Democrat” Rosen Gonzalez, not because residents were happy with him. We aren’t. His policies have been divisive, hyperpartisan, classist, and undemocratic. I believe it was mostly his mild-mannered and discreet persona and general even keel (outside of Israel-related discussions) that made him more tolerable outside his religious base.
