OSAGE, Iowa – A plea deal has been reached over a fiery case of insurance fraud in Mitchell County.
Law enforcement says Zachary Marshall Robbins, 39 of Rockwell, and an unnamed individual staged a car accident on March 13, 2019. Investigators say two vehicles were deliberately crashed together at the intersection of Shadow Avenue and 450 th Street. Robbins then allegedly set fire to his vehicle, causing an explosion that destroyed the vehicle and everything in it.
The Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office says Robbins then lied about the fake accident and filed an insurance claim of more than $70,000.
Robbins had pleaded not guilty to first-degree arson, insurance fraud, and false report of an indictable offense to a public entity. He’s now entered a guilty plea to one count of fraudul
