Premier Tony Wakeham says the federal budget raises more questions than it answers when it comes to the potential impact on Newfoundland and Labrador.

Wakeham says government remains concerned about NL’s absence from the federal government’s list of ‘nation-building’ projects.

Wakeham says brief mentions of Churchill Falls and Gull Island are not the same as a commitment to invest in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The premier is also concerned that the Atlantic Fisheries Fund and jobs at DFO could be on the chopping block.

He says if the federal government is going to continue to reject this province’s requests for joint management of the fishery, then it will need to prove that it’s doing the job.

Wakeham is somewhat encouraged by language that seemed to indicate an openness on removing
