LUFKIN, Texas (KLTV) - A Lufkin man has been found not guilty of firing at an officer during a 12-hour standoff.
The trial began Tuesday with closing arguments taking place Wednesday.
Jason Penick, 48, was arrested in June 2024 after police first responded to a domestic call on the 700 block of Clark Avenue. According to police, Penick then fired at the officers and barricaded himself inside a home, leading to a 12-hour long standoff. He was later arrested and charged with aggravated assault against a public servant with a deadly weapon.
Wednesday, the jury found him to be not guilty of the charge.
Court testimony revealed witnesses, including other officers did not see anyone fire a weapon, but they heard gunshots and a gun was recovered at the scene.
