Exhaust fans from patient bathrooms at Launceston General Hospital are being used to instead suck in cold air from the air-conditioned corridors amid long-running heat stress issues, documents obtained under Right to Information laws show.
The documents also reveal some wards have no provisions for cooling at all, and one of the air-conditioning units has not been updated for almost 50 years.
In January, hundreds of former and current patients , their families and staff told the ABC of "horrific" and "inhumane" conditions their family, friends and patients had experienced while at the Launceston General Hospital.
In response, patients were given cold face washers and icy poles to help them cool down when temperature inside neared 30 degrees Celsius.
