MOUNT IDA, Ark. – The Mt. Ida mayor is facing possible charges after a legislative audit and sheriff’s investigation revealed alleged overpayments well above his base salary.
Montgomery County Sheriff Neal Thomas said the arrest on Tuesday came after his investigation and consultation with the county prosecutor. The investigation was triggered by the state’s 2024 legislative audit, which found irregularities in the mayor's and the city’s recorder-treasurer's receipt checks above their normal compensation, he said.
Only the mayor has been arrested at this time, Thomas said. However, another person, who was the city secretary, is no longer employed by the city after alleged irregularities involving overpayment were discovered, he added.
