PASS CHRISTIAN, Miss. (WLOX) - The Gulf Coast Veterans Association 3rd Annual Veterans Day Parade, set for Saturday in Pass Christian, has been canceled due to the government shutdown.
According to the Gulf Coast Veterans Association in a Facebook post, more than 300 service members and personnel are unable to participate, making it impossible to move forward.
The Veterans Association says, “While we share in the disappointment, we are choosing to turn this setback into a blessing.”
According to the Association, the funds originally designated for the parade will now go toward providing Thanksgiving dinners for veterans and active-duty families through a new initiative— “Blessings for the Brave.”
The Gulf Coast Veterans Parade is still set to roll through downtown Gulfport at 11 a.m.
