Michigan Supreme Court justices heard arguments Wednesday, Nov. 5, in a case debating what investigatory powers the state attorney general has under Michigan's Consumer Protection Act as it hopes to probe a major insulin manufacturer's pricing practices.

In Jan. 2022 , Attorney General Dana Nessel's office launched an investigation into Eli Lilly and Co., one of the nation's largest pharmaceutical manufacturers. At the time, state officials sought approval to subpoena Eli Lilly, but attorneys for the company argued its transactions were protected by two previous Michigan Supreme Court decisions in cases about the MCPA. An Ingham County judge agreed and granted Eli Lilly a motion to dismiss the case.
