HOUSTON — The Houston Police Officers’ Union is openly recruiting New York City police officers following the election of Zohran Mamdani as mayor of New York.

In a social-media post, the union asked:

“NYPD, are you disgusted with the election of Zohran Mamdani? Join us!”

The post urges New York officers to consider joining the Houston Police Department, promoting Texas as a more supportive environment for law enforcement. It highlights a recently approved 36.5 percent pay raise over five years, a “supportive mayor and city council,” and a police chief described as “a retired Texas Ranger, not a politician.”

The union also pointed to benefits such as affordable housing, affordable insurance, and a DROP retirement program available to all officers.
