Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. handily won a new term as the Jersey Shore resort’s top official, winning by a wide margin over his challenger despite two indictments and a looming criminal trial .

In Tuesday’s general election, which saw Democratic victories across the state, Small defeated Republican Naeem Ahmed Khan in a race that prompted speculation on voter turnout for the mayor.

Small received 62.48% of the vote, compared to Khan’s 37.52%. The 25-point margin reflects Atlantic City’s status as a Democratic stronghold.

“We want to continue to make sure that people continue to dream big and vote Small,” Small told reporters outside his campaign event.

Tuesday’s general election was Small’s third time running for mayor.
